I have absolutely nothing against fast food. The fact is, I love Quarter Pounders and Whoppers, Baconators and KFC. But there was a time when there wasn’t a Golden Arch at every off-ramp.
This isn’t a new concept, either. Off-road cooking goes back to the days before convenience stores, when there were signs that read “NEXT FUEL IN 105 MILES”. And the number of us that remember those signs is dwindling by the hour.
The closest golden arch to us is about ten miles and 30 minutes away. My stoves, grills or grates are 10 feet and 5 minutes. Here’s breakfast and real fresh coffee in less than 10 minutes.
Here are three tips for you:
Garlic. Onion. Mushrooms.
Any combination of these three adds more flavor. Sweat the onions and garlic together. Sometimes I add the sliced mushrooms, especially on the trails, but if I can keep them separate, I most likely will. A green onion is great for a garnish, fresh, but try a little butter and wilt the onion. You can thank me later.
Somebody hit me up on JeepLife! The coffee is hot and there’s plenty to eat!
