Friday, 13 October, 2023- A lot has happened in the last couple of months. First, I shattered the transfer case in the High Plains Drifter Jeep. Then, a couple of weeks later, on the way to Gulches, the same thing happened to the Pale Rider Jeep- Shattered transfer case. The show must go on, and I arrived at Gulches in a Lexus! Now, two weeks later, I’m on my way to another COLORS 4X4 event, “Wild Weekend at WindRock” in a Lexus. The plan was to meet with some COLORS 4X4 members and ride along with them. We decided to rent a side-by-side to follow along and get some pictures.
I’m not complaining, but the trip was only supposed to take 8 hours. With all of the wrecks and Google map diversions, we spent over 12 hours on the road. The people at WindRock are top notch, and left a package for us on the porch of the registration office! We went straight to the yurt and unpacked for the weekend.
Saturday, 14 October, 2023- Early Saturday morning, I met Keith at the store, and he set us up with a sky blue Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 1000 and a list of trails he recommended. With a cooler full of cokes and my camera bag, we hit the trails, headed for the overlook! This is the first time I have ever seen the mountains in October… I always listened to people talk about how beautiful the Autumn colors were, but I could never get a weekend off to see it for myself. For a day shy of 57 years, I’d only been able to see it through someone else’s viewfinder.
WindRock Park’s trails span over 73,000 acres! The last time we were here was back in December, 2021.
Sunday, 15 October, 2023- All good things must come to an end… So we’re leaving Tennessee, driving through the backroads, and we stop at a few places to take some pictures.
