Hot Chocolate- My all-time favorite drink when it’s cold. It’s even better in a snow flurry or beside a campfire.
In a pinch, some hot water and a few packets of Swiss Miss will do, but THAT is hot cocoa. In my humble opinion, Hot Chocolate is richer, creamier and much more decadent!
It starts right here- real melting chocolate wafers. I have my own favorite mix:
50% Dark Chocolate
25% Milk Chocolate
25% White Chocolate
1 Quart Whole Milk
1 Quart Whipping Cream
1/2 Teaspoon of Sea Salt
I use my percolator when we’re out on the trails. Heat everything S-L-O-W-L-Y! Start with the whole milk, and as it heats, start adding the chocolate. Stir it very often and you’ll feel and see the chocolate starting to melt. After all of the chocolate is added, you can add the cream and salt. Let it get hot, and enjoy!
Add a shot of Spiced Rum, Fireball or your favorite bourbon to your mug before you fill it. We topped ours off with Whipped Cream, then covered it with crushed soft peppermints. Here is where those butane burners and percolators come in handy!
